Puzzles

This month Zoe and Mia are both in to puzzles. Zoe has discovered a hidden talent and Mia has discovered a set of teething tools.

One afternoon Ruth and Aimee pulled out a 1,000 pc puzzle that I had in the closet. It was spread out on the kitchen table while they worked on it during the girls nap time. When Zoe woke up, it was still laid out on the table, and she instantly was curious. She spent the next 30 minutes trying to put pieces together. It was a really challenging puzzle, but she didn't get frustrated at all (very surprising given that she is prone to frustration). Anyway, we pulled out a few 25/30 pc puzzles for her and she started putting them together right away. Then a 50 pc puzzle and a puzzle of all the United States. Now, she takes all the puzzles out, dumps all the pieces out together and will put them together as fast as I could. When she's in the mood for more attention, she'll act like she doesn't know where a piece goes or try putting it in the wrong spot and then giggle and tell us she's being "so silly."

Mia is pleased that Zoe is now absorbed in these board puzzles because she has taken a liking for the block puzzles. She is teething like crazy and constantly has something in her mouth. On the food front, she's mostly enjoying her foray in to solid foods. So far, she's had: avocado, oatmeal, millet, brown rice, peas, carrots, squash, prunes, sweet potato, yogurt, and chick peas. She still has the reflux, but it doesn't seem to bother her as much. I'm just doing my laundry all the time because she's constantly puking on me. Nice.

Monkey Jacket

There has been so much going on this summer that I have quite a bit of posting to catch up on... farm visits, water parks and play dates as well as family visits will hopefully all see some attention here soon.  In the meantime, I didn't want to forget one fun day at the Arlington County Fair.

Until just a few months ago, Zoe was a tad cautious at the water elements and slides at parks. She loved to watch them and to watch others play with them, but didn't want to much to do with them herself. In general, she liked to observe the lay of the land for a period of time before jumping in.

That has changed. She is now keen to jump right in to any water park and at the Arlington County Fair last weekend she even went on the big slide. This is one of those slides where you sit on the potato sack in order to gain speed. Granted, she needed to sit on my lap because of height restrictions, but she had absolutely no qualms about taking on the slide. What we can't figure out, however, is how come she kept calling the potato sack we sat on a "monkey jacket". Anyone? Anyone?
